The first stop of the trip was Korčula, Croatia.
Korčula is a Croatian Island in the Adriatic Sea. It is often known as ‘Little Dubrovnik’ and is also regularly regarded as the birthplace of the famous explorer Marco Polo.
To get to shore from where the ship docked we had to use tenders which are small boats that shuttle you to and from the ship to land. In the morning the weather was relatively calm and there were no issues however the return journey was a completely different story.
The tenders dropped us at the harbour walls right in front of the old town. It was a short walk to pretty much anywhere in the town. At the entrance to the old town is a set of stairs leading to a small archway. Once entering through the archway you know you’re in the old town.
The old town which is lined with magnificent cobbled streets is almost is as if it sticks out to sea from the island. You can walk round the entirety in 15 minutes or so and can do so easily using the paths and roads that surround the town itself. There are lots of narrow streets to be explored with small shops and cafes on either side. It is a very picturesque place.
Unfortunately the weather took a turn for the worse in the afternoon and made the journey back to the ship a little more interesting. But none the less Korčula is a pretty little town and deserves to be explored more.
